Why the commercial case is not the domestic one

A commercial rooftop is a capital investment appraised against a tariff, not a household purchase appraised against a bill. Two things move the numbers away from the residential case: there is no PM Surya Ghar subsidy, and the asset can be depreciated.

The depreciation figure here is indicative and is not tax advice. It depends on your regime, your profitability and your commissioning date, and your accountant is the only person who can confirm it. The solar accelerated depreciation calculator breaks that half down on its own, and the capacity calculator shows what your connection actually permits.

Questions about this estimate

Is there a subsidy for commercial solar?

Not under PM Surya Ghar, which is residential only. The commercial return comes from two other places: you displace a commercial tariff, which is usually higher than a domestic one, and you can depreciate the asset. That is why commercial payback can be shorter than a household’s despite there being no subsidy.

Should I include the depreciation benefit in the payback?

It depends who is reading the number. Including it shows the true cash position for a profitable business that can absorb the deduction. Excluding it shows the energy case alone, which is the safer figure if the tax position is uncertain. The toggle exists so you can see both.

What limits the size of a commercial system?

Usually the sanctioned load rather than the roof. Your DISCOM will not approve a rooftop system above your sanctioned demand, so a business with a large roof and a modest connection is capped by paperwork rather than by space.

Do demand charges change the case?

They can. Solar reduces the energy component of a commercial bill but does not by itself reduce contracted demand, so a bill dominated by demand charges saves proportionally less. A site survey establishes that before we quote.

Which panel and inverter brands does Origian use for commercial systems?

The same brands as our residential installations, sized and specified for the load: Renewsys, Adani, Waaree or Tata for panels, and Growatt, Solis or Goodwe for inverters. Product, performance and workmanship terms are the same warranty structure described on our warranty page — commercial systems do not run on a separate, lesser tier.
