Solar panel warranty: what Origian Power guarantees, and for how long
Three separate guarantees cover a solar installation, and they are not interchangeable. Here is what each one actually protects you against.
- Product warranty
- 10 years product warranty on solar panels (Renewsys, Adani, Waaree, Tata).
- Performance warranty
- 25 years performance warranty on solar panels.
- Workmanship warranty
- 5 years workmanship warranty on Origian's own installation work.
- Inverter warranty
- Typically 5 to 10 years, varying by inverter brand (Growatt, Solis, Goodwe).
The three warranties on a solar system
Almost every solar quotation mentions warranty, and almost none distinguishes between the three quite different guarantees involved. Knowing which is which is what lets you compare two offers properly.
Manufacturer
Product warranty
Covers the panel or inverter itself against manufacturing defect and physical failure.
10 years product warranty on solar panels (Renewsys, Adani, Waaree, Tata).
Manufacturer
Performance warranty
Guarantees the panel still produces at least a stated percentage of rated output after a given number of years. Separate from the product warranty.
25 years performance warranty on solar panels.
Installer
Workmanship warranty
Covers the installation: mounting, wiring, weatherproofing and the labour to correct it. This is the one most early faults fall under.
5 years workmanship warranty on Origian's own installation work.
Manufacturer
Inverter warranty
Covers the inverter separately from the panels — it is the component most likely to need replacement within the system’s lifetime, and its warranty period varies by brand.
Typically 5 to 10 years, varying by inverter brand (Growatt, Solis, Goodwe).
How to compare two warranties
A longer number is not automatically a better warranty. When comparing installers, the questions that separate a real commitment from a marketing figure are:
- Is the workmanship warranty in writing, with a duration? This is the installer’s own commitment and the one they control.
- What is the performance guarantee at year 25, in percent? Two “25-year” warranties can guarantee materially different output.
- Does the manufacturer have a service presence in India? A warranty from a company with no local support is difficult to enforce.
- Is the module BIS-certified and ALMM-listed? Modules on the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers are also the ones eligible for PM Surya Ghar subsidy — an unlisted panel can cost you the subsidy even if the warranty terms look fine.
- Who pays for labour on a warranty replacement? A free panel is small comfort if removing and refitting it is chargeable.
- What maintenance is required to keep cover valid?
Origian answers all six of these in writing with every quotation, before you commit to anything.
Making a claim
No fixed formal claims procedure yet — a customer calls Origian directly and a technician visits to check and rectify the issue.
Routine cleaning and inspection under an annual maintenance contract keep a system inside its warranty conditions and catch faults while they are still small. For what is installed and how, see on-grid systems.

Common questions
What is the difference between a product and a performance warranty?
A product warranty covers the panel itself against manufacturing defects and physical failure. A performance warranty is a separate guarantee that the panel will still produce at least a stated percentage of its rated output after a given number of years. A panel can be entirely intact, and so outside a product claim, while having degraded enough to trigger a performance claim.
What is a workmanship warranty?
It covers the installation rather than the equipment: mounting, wiring, weatherproofing and the labour of putting it right. It comes from the installer, not the manufacturer, and it is the one that matters most in practice because most early faults are installation faults rather than equipment faults.
Who honours a solar warranty: the manufacturer or the installer?
Both, for different things. Product and performance warranties are the manufacturer’s obligation; the workmanship warranty is the installer’s. In practice you raise the claim with your installer, who handles the manufacturer. This is why an installer who is still in business matters more than a longer number on paper.
What voids a solar warranty?
Commonly: modification by a third party, physical damage from impact or misuse, and in some cases documented failure to carry out required maintenance. Terms differ by manufacturer, which is why the written document matters more than the headline figure.
How do I make a warranty claim?
Contact your installer with the system details and a description of the fault. They diagnose whether it is an equipment or installation issue, and pursue the manufacturer if it is the former. Keeping your commissioning certificate and equipment serial numbers makes this considerably faster.
What is ALMM, and why does it matter for my warranty?
ALMM is the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers, the central government list of solar module and cell manufacturers whose products are eligible for government schemes like PM Surya Ghar. A panel outside that list does not just risk the subsidy — a manufacturer with no ALMM standing is a weaker guarantee that a 25-year performance warranty will still be honoured that far into the future. Ask any installer for the panel’s ALMM status before treating a quoted warranty figure as settled.
What if my installer goes out of business — is the panel warranty still valid?
The product and performance warranties are the manufacturer’s obligation, not the installer’s, so they do not lapse if the installer who sold you the system closes down. What you lose is convenience: you would raise the claim with the manufacturer directly, using your commissioning certificate and the panel’s serial numbers, rather than through an installer who already knows your system. The workmanship warranty is different — that one genuinely is the installer’s, and there is no manufacturer standing behind it if they are gone. It is a real reason to weigh an installer’s staying power, not only its quoted price.
What is the turnaround time for a warranty repair or replacement?
We do not currently have a fixed formal turnaround-time commitment — you contact us directly with the fault, and a technician is sent to check and resolve it. We would rather state that honestly than quote a service-level figure we cannot guarantee.
Ask us for our warranty terms in writing
We will send you the full documentation for the equipment we supply and for our own workmanship, before you commit to anything.
