Solar panel installation across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

One contractor from survey to commissioning, including the DISCOM approvals. Here is exactly what happens, in what order.

How an Origian installation runs

Solar installation is a sequence of dependencies, and the order matters more than most customers are told. Buying equipment before feasibility approval, or installing before the roof has been assessed, is how projects end up costing more than they were quoted.

First meeting explaining how the system works, site visit, quotation, document collection once closed, advance payment or loan processing, installation, DISCOM documentation and approval, synchronisation, switch-on. Typically 10 to 15 days end to end.

  1. Site survey

We visit and assess the roof area, orientation, shading through the day, structural condition and your existing electrical connection. We also look at your recent bills, because consumption drives sizing.

  2. Design and proposal

You receive a system design with capacity, layout, equipment specification and expected generation, plus a clear, full price.

  3. Approvals

We submit the DISCOM feasibility application. Nothing is bought until feasibility clears.

  4. Structure and mounting

The mounting structure is installed and anchored. This is where quality either exists or does not: the structure carries the panels through two decades of wind and monsoon.

  5. Electrical installation

Panels, inverter, DC and AC protection, earthing and cabling. Earthing and surge protection are not optional extras. They are what protects the system and the building.

  6. Inspection and net metering

The DISCOM inspects the completed installation and a bidirectional meter is fitted. The system cannot legally be energised before this.

  7. Commissioning and handover

The system is energised and tested, and you are shown how to read its output and what to watch for. You receive the commissioning certificate and warranty documentation.

What determines the cost of a solar installation

Every quotation is different because every roof and every system is. Rather than quote a single figure that would not apply to your property, here is what actually moves the number:

  • System size (kW). The single biggest factor — a larger system costs more, but also generates and saves more, which is what a proper ROI calculation accounts for.
  • Panel and inverter brand. Origian installs Renewsys, Adani, Waaree and Tata panels, with Growatt, Solis and Goodwe inverters — brand and tier affect price and warranty terms.
  • Roof and mounting complexity. A flat concrete roof, a sloped tile roof and a metal sheet roof each need a different mounting structure — see the roof-type FAQ below.
  • DISCOM feasibility and net-metering fees. Part of every installation, not an optional extra.
  • Battery storage. A Solar Hybrid or Solar Off-grid system adds battery cost that a pure on-grid system does not carry.

The one number we can give you before a site survey is the subsidy: see PM Surya Ghar subsidy amounts for what it reduces your cost by. For a personalised estimate against your own bill, use the solar savings and payback calculator. For an exact price, the free site survey below is what turns these factors into a real quotation.

Where we work

Telangana — Hyderabad, Warangal, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Suryapet, and surrounding areas. Andhra Pradesh — Anantapur, Kurnool, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Nellore, Kadapa, Sri Sathya Sai and Nandyal, and surrounding areas.

For completed installations, the local office and a free site survey specifically in Anantapur, see solar panel installation in Anantapur. For the local offices and a free site survey in Hyderabad, see solar panel installation in Hyderabad.

The remaining cities below are within Origian’s confirmed service area but do not have a local office — each page says so honestly rather than implying a branch that does not exist.

Who does the work

Origian Power is an Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractor: design, sourcing and building all under one responsibility. The practical consequence is that there is one party accountable for the system rather than a supplier blaming an installer and an installer blaming a supplier.

Nine-person team: two managing partners, two heads of sales, one head technician, two documentation/finance staff, two office staff. Certified Installers.

Common questions

How long does solar panel installation take?

It depends which stage you mean. The physical work — mounting the panels, wiring, connecting the inverter — is typically finished within a few days for a domestic system. What actually determines the overall timeline is the DISCOM feasibility approval, inspection and net-metering application, which run on the DISCOM’s schedule, not ours. See the stage-by-stage process above for what happens at each point.

Do I need to be present during installation?

You need to be available for the survey and for the handover, and someone must be able to give access on working days. You do not need to supervise the work itself.

Will installation damage my roof?

A properly executed installation should not. Mounting method depends on roof type: ballasted structures on flat concrete roofs avoid penetration entirely, while pitched roofs use sealed fixings. Roof condition is assessed at survey precisely so this is decided before work starts, not during it.

What areas does Origian Power cover?

Origian Power works across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, with completed installations in and around Hyderabad, Anantapur and Kalyandurg. Call us with your location and we will confirm whether you are in our current service area.

Who handles the DISCOM paperwork?

We do. Feasibility application, inspection coordination and the net-metering application are all part of the installation, not a separate service you arrange yourself. Origian Power is not a registered PM Surya Ghar vendor, so we do not file subsidy applications.

What questions should I ask before choosing a solar installer?

Ask who is legally accountable if the system underperforms or a component fails — a single EPC contractor, or separate parties for supply and installation who can blame each other. Ask to see the product, performance and workmanship warranty documents, not just a verbal figure. Ask who submits and tracks the DISCOM feasibility, inspection and net-metering applications, since that is where most delays happen. And ask for real, named completed installations you can check, not just a capacity figure on a quotation.

What are red flags when comparing solar quotations?

A price with no equipment brand named, a payback claim with no assumptions shown, and pressure to sign before a site survey has happened are the three we see most. A quotation that promises your bill will go to zero is also worth questioning: fixed and demand charges are billed on the connection regardless of how much you generate, so a well-sized system reduces the bill rather than eliminating it.

Can solar panels be installed on metal sheet, tin, asbestos or sloped tile roofs?

Yes, with a mounting method matched to the roof rather than one structure used everywhere. Metal sheet and tin roofs generally take a clamp-fixed structure that does not penetrate the sheet. RCC and flat concrete roofs typically use a ballasted structure that avoids drilling and waterproofing damage entirely. Sloped tile roofs use sealed hook or rail fixings into the rafters underneath. Asbestos roofs need particular care because the sheet is brittle and can crack under a standard fixing — this is assessed at survey, not assumed from the roof material alone.

Are mounting structures built for cyclone-strength winds in coastal Andhra Pradesh?

A structure should be designed to the wind-speed zone the site actually sits in, under IS 875 — the Indian structural code covering wind loads on buildings and structures — rather than one generic design used regardless of location. Coastal AP districts carry a materially higher design wind speed than inland Telangana, and that difference should show up in the structure’s specification. Ask any installer for the wind rating their structure is designed to, not just the panel brand.

How much does solar panel installation cost?

It depends on system size, the panel and inverter brand chosen, your roof type, and whether the system includes battery storage — there is no single figure that applies to every property. What we can tell you before a survey is the PM Surya Ghar subsidy amount, which reduces the cost for eligible residential systems. The free site survey is what turns your specific roof and bill into an actual quotation, with equipment brand and price named in writing.
