Solar loan EMI calculator
See the monthly instalment on a rooftop system, and whether the bill you stop paying covers it.
Your details
We size the system to this, then work out the instalment on it.
A longer period lowers the instalment but costs more interest overall.
Paying more up front cuts the instalment and the interest.
The subsidy is reimbursed after commissioning, so most buyers finance the after-subsidy figure. Switch to before-subsidy to see the instalment if that reimbursement were delayed or did not come through.
Defaults to a typical rate for a residential solar loan. Move it to your own quote for an exact instalment instead of a range.

The number that decides it
Most solar finance pages lead with the instalment. On its own that is the wrong number: it tells you what leaves your account, not what changes. The figure that decides a rooftop purchase is the instalment set against the bill it replaces, which is why that comparison is the headline here.
The rate is the part we cannot pin down from a form. Lenders price on the borrower rather than on the asset, so two households buying the same system are quoted differently. The savings calculator works out the underlying saving if you would rather buy outright.
Questions about this estimate
Can a solar loan really pay for itself?
Often, but not always, and the calculator shows which case you are in. When the bill you stop paying is larger than the instalment you start paying, the system is cash-positive from the first month. On a shorter tenure or a smaller bill it may not be, and there is a monthly gap until the loan ends.
What interest rate does this assume?
A typical starting rate for rooftop solar lending, which you can move to your own lender's actual quote on the slider above. Your real rate depends on the lender, your credit profile and whether the loan is secured, so treat the default as a starting shape rather than a quote — a lender is the only party who can price it properly.
Is the subsidy included?
By default, yes — the loan is sized against the cost after the PM Surya Ghar subsidy, because most buyers finance what they actually expect to pay. Toggle the subsidy switch above to see the instalment on the pre-subsidy cost instead, useful if you want to see the gap the subsidy is bridging or plan for it being delayed.
Does a longer tenure make it cheaper?
It makes the instalment smaller and the total larger. Stretching the term is how you get the monthly figure under your current bill, but you pay more interest to do it. The total-interest figure moves as you change the slider so you can see the trade.
What is the most affordable way to finance solar?
The combination that minimises total cost, not the one with the smallest monthly number — those pull in opposite directions. A larger down payment and a shorter tenure cost less overall but demand more upfront; stretching the tenure lowers the instalment but adds interest. What actually makes solar affordable is not underfinancing it: an undersized system to fit a smaller loan generates less and saves less every month for the next 25 years, which usually costs far more than a slightly larger instalment for a few years would have.
