Top solar inverter brands in India: how to choose the right one for your rooftop

Published 23 Oct 2026 · Updated 23 Oct 2026

Leading solar inverter brands sold in India, what each is known for, and how to compare on-grid, hybrid and micro-inverters before you buy.

The inverter is the hardest-working part of a rooftop solar system. It converts the DC power from your panels into AC power for your home, tracks the best operating point of the panels through the day, protects the system, and reports how much you are generating. It is also the component most likely to need servicing or replacement during the life of the panels. So "which solar inverter brand is best?" is a fair question, and one of the most searched in Indian solar.

This guide lists established solar inverter brands sold in India, summarises what each is known for, and shows how to compare models for your own roof. The brands are listed in alphabetical order, not ranked. Facts about each company come from public sources listed at the end. Product ranges change often, so check each brand's current Indian catalogue before you decide.

How we chose these brands

We included brands that meet all of these criteria:

  1. Sold and supported in India, with a local presence or distribution.
  2. A track record of years in solar inverters, not a recent entry.
  3. Products relevant to Indian rooftops: on-grid string inverters, hybrid inverters, or micro-inverters suited to homes and businesses.
  4. Public, verifiable information about the company that we could cite.

Many good brands are not on this list simply because we could not verify enough about them from public sources. Being absent is not a judgment against them.

First, know which type of inverter you need

The brand matters less than choosing the right type:

  • On-grid (string) inverters suit most homes and businesses with reliable grid power. They export surplus through net metering and shut down during a power cut.
  • Hybrid inverters add battery charging and backup, for homes that face frequent outages.
  • Off-grid inverters run systems with no grid connection at all.
  • Micro-inverters sit under each panel and handle shade and mixed orientations well, at a higher cost per watt.

Our guide to solar inverter types explains each in detail, and how a hybrid inverter works covers backup systems.

The brands (alphabetical)

1. Enphase

  • Known for: micro-inverters, which convert power at each panel rather than for a whole string.
  • In India: Enphase announced in October 2023 that it had begun shipping its IQ8 micro-inverters in India, designed for high-power modules, with a 15-year limited warranty extendable to 25 years for units activated in India, according to the company.
  • Worth knowing: micro-inverters suit roofs with partial shade or panels facing different directions, but cost more per watt than a string inverter. On an open, south-facing roof, the extra cost is harder to justify.

2. Fronius

  • Background: an Austrian company founded in 1945 in Pettenbach by Günter Fronius, working in welding technology, battery charging and photovoltaics. Its solar business began in 1992, according to the company's history.

  • Known for: inverters across utility-scale, commercial and residential segments, and energy storage.
  • Worth knowing: local manufacturing in India can help with availability and lead times.

How to compare solar inverters, model by model

Once you have a shortlist, compare the specific models you are quoted:

  • Rated power (kW): sized close to your panel capacity. Our inverter types guide explains sizing.
  • Single-phase or three-phase: must match your electricity connection.
  • Number of MPPT inputs: two or more help when panels face different directions or get shade at different times.
  • MPPT voltage range and maximum input voltage: must suit your string design, including cool winter mornings and hot afternoons.
  • Weighted efficiency: more useful than peak efficiency for comparing models.
  • Operating temperature and derating: important for hot Telangana and Andhra Pradesh summers.
  • Protection features: built-in surge protection, ground-fault detection, anti-islanding.
  • Monitoring: an app or portal that shows daily generation and alerts you to faults.
  • Warranty: length in years, and whether it can be extended.
  • Service: where the nearest service centre is, and who handles a claim.

Warranty and service matter as much as the brand

An inverter usually needs replacing at least once during a panel's 25-year life. That makes two questions more important than the logo:

  1. How long is the warranty, and what does it cover? Warranty lengths vary by brand and model. The inverters Origian installs carry warranties of 5 to 10 years, depending on the brand.
  2. Who handles a fault? In practice, your installer should diagnose the problem and raise the warranty claim with the manufacturer. Ask whether that is included.

A slightly cheaper inverter with no local service can cost far more over 25 years than a well-supported one.

Where the inverter goes affects how long it lasts

Inverters dislike heat and direct sun. Mount them in a shaded, ventilated spot, protected from rain, close enough to the panels to keep DC cable runs reasonable, and easy to reach for checks. In our region's summers, a badly placed inverter can reduce its own output to protect itself and may age faster.

Which inverter brands does Origian install?

In the interest of transparency: Origian Power installs inverters from three of the brands above, Growatt, Solis and Goodwe, chosen to suit the system size, phase and whether backup is needed, with warranties of 5 to 10 years depending on the brand. For hybrid systems we currently use Luminous lead-acid batteries. Your quotation names the exact inverter model, so you can check its datasheet.

We have included five other brands because they meet the same criteria, and a fair guide should show the wider market.

Whatever inverter you choose, it needs proper protection around it: DC and AC distribution boxes, surge protection on both sides, correct earthing and correctly sized cable. See our guides to the solar panel wiring diagram and solar earthing and lightning protection, our Built to Last page, or book a free site survey.

Common mistakes when choosing a solar inverter

  • Buying a hybrid inverter you do not need. If outages are rare and short, an on-grid inverter with a small separate UPS is often cheaper.
  • Undersizing or oversizing. Both waste money or energy. Size to the panels and the site.
  • Ignoring MPPT inputs. A single input on a roof with mixed orientations or shade costs generation every day.
  • Ignoring service. No local service centre means long waits when something fails.
  • Poor placement. Afternoon sun on the inverter shortens its life and reduces output.
  • Comparing peak efficiency only. Weighted efficiency and real-world placement matter more.

A quick checklist before you choose

  1. Decide the type first: on-grid, hybrid, off-grid or micro-inverter.
  2. Ask for the exact model and datasheet.
  3. Check kW rating, phase, MPPT inputs and voltage range against your panels.
  4. Read the warranty in writing and ask who handles claims.
  5. Confirm a service centre in your region.
  6. Agree on a shaded, ventilated mounting location.

Sizing an inverter: a worked example

Inverter sizing starts from the panels, not the brand:

  • A 3 kW home system usually pairs with a 3 kW single-phase on-grid inverter. In our region it produces about 400 units a month on average.
  • A 5 kW home system usually pairs with a 5 kW inverter. Whether that is single-phase or three-phase depends on your connection; three-phase connections usually take three-phase inverters.
  • A 10 kW system for a large home or small business usually uses a three-phase inverter, producing about 15,500 to 16,000 units a year in our region.

Within those choices, the designer checks that each string's voltage stays inside the inverter's MPPT window on hot afternoons and cool winter mornings, and that roof sections facing different directions go to separate MPPT inputs. Our article on the solar panel wiring diagram explains strings and MPPT inputs.

Hybrid inverters: check battery compatibility

If you choose a hybrid inverter, the battery decides as much as the inverter does:

  • Battery voltage and chemistry must match what the inverter supports, whether lead-acid or lithium.
  • Backup switching: check whether backup loads switch over automatically and how quickly.
  • Which loads are backed up: usually a separate backup circuit for lights, fans, the fridge and Wi-Fi, not the whole house.
  • Battery replacement: batteries wear out long before the inverter or panels, so plan for replacements.

Monitoring: what to watch on your inverter app

Most modern inverters connect to an app or web portal. A few habits catch problems early:

  • Compare clear-day generation with previous clear days. A steady drop can mean dust, shade or a fault.
  • Watch for error codes and note them before calling your installer.
  • Check monthly totals against expectations: about 130 units per kW per month on average in our region.
  • Keep the inverter online. If the Wi-Fi changes, reconnect the monitoring so you don't lose data.

Commercial inverters: what changes for businesses

Businesses, hospitals and schools usually need three-phase inverters, often several working together, and sometimes integration with diesel generators or UPS systems. For commercial systems, also ask about:

  • Generator integration, so solar and the generator don't conflict during outages;
  • Remote monitoring for the facilities team, with alerts;
  • Spare-parts availability and response times written into the maintenance agreement.

Our commercial rooftop solar guide covers sizing and approvals for businesses.

Planning for inverter replacement

Because an inverter usually needs replacing once during a panel's life, plan for it from day one:

  • keep the datasheet, warranty card and installation records;
  • note the installation date and warranty expiry;
  • when replacing, choose a model compatible with your existing strings and connection, so the panels and wiring don't need to change;
  • ask your installer whether the replacement needs any DISCOM paperwork.

Inverters and the PM Surya Ghar subsidy

For a home applying for the PM Surya Ghar subsidy, the scheme's rules apply to the whole system, and the subsidy is paid only when a vendor registered with your DISCOM installs it. Check the current equipment requirements on the official portal, and ask your registered vendor which inverter models they use for subsidy installations. For transparency, Origian Power is not a registered PM Surya Ghar vendor, so a system we install does not qualify for that subsidy; we always quote the full price. Our subsidy guide explains the scheme, and our guide to checking your PM Surya Ghar status covers tracking an application.

Frequently asked questions

Which solar inverter brand is best in India? There is no official ranking of solar inverter brands in India. Established brands sold here include Enphase, Fronius, GoodWe, Growatt, Havells, Luminous, Solis and Sungrow. The best choice depends on the inverter type you need, the model's specifications, its warranty and whether there is a service centre in your region.

Which is the best solar inverter for home use? For most homes with reliable grid power, a correctly sized on-grid string solar inverter is the best value. Homes with frequent power cuts may need a hybrid inverter with batteries. Compare kW rating, phase, MPPT inputs, weighted efficiency, warranty and local service on the specific models you are quoted.

Which solar inverters does Origian install? Origian installs Growatt, Solis and Goodwe solar inverters, chosen to suit the system size, the connection phase and whether battery backup is needed. Warranties are 5 to 10 years depending on the brand. Your quotation names the exact inverter model, so you can check its datasheet before you sign.

How long does a solar inverter last? A good solar inverter typically lasts around ten years or more, which is shorter than the 25-year life of solar panels, so most systems need one inverter replacement. Shade, ventilation and correct sizing help an inverter last longer. Check the warranty length and who handles claims before you buy.

What is the difference between a string inverter and a micro-inverter for solar? A string solar inverter converts the power of a whole series of panels at once, while a micro-inverter sits under each panel and converts its output individually. Micro-inverters handle shade and mixed orientations better but cost more per watt. On an open, south-facing roof, a string inverter is usually the economical choice.

Do I need a hybrid solar inverter? You need a hybrid solar inverter only if you want backup during power cuts. It charges batteries and switches selected loads to them when the grid fails. If outages are rare and short, an on-grid inverter with a small separate UPS is usually cheaper. Size any battery to your essential loads.

What should I check in a solar inverter datasheet? In a solar inverter datasheet, check the rated power, single or three phase, the number of MPPT inputs, the MPPT voltage range and maximum input voltage, weighted efficiency, operating temperature and derating, protection features, monitoring options and the warranty. These matter more than the brand name for how the system performs.
